Wild

This cover caught my attention while I was digging around at Crossroads earlier today. I flipped it over, saw that it was on Bastard Jazz (Chico Mann) and Wonderwheel (Nikodemus), and decided to pick it up.

Going into an actual shop, flipping through hundreds of records, pulling one out, flipping it over, reading the cover and the liner notes. There’s a magic to this type of discovery. Being an active participant in the process. Being open to surprises. Being willing to take a chance one something new that you’ve never heard of. Following the context clues.

Sometimes you get burned. Sometimes you wind up with Isaac Aesili record. A Maori artist from New Zealand that the algorithm has never played for me, and probably never would have.

This isn’t a full blown “fuck AI” moment, but it is me nudging you to get out there and be an active participant in the art that you choose to consume and to trust your instincts. Sameness is boring. Really fucking boring.
