Underwater

Harry Thurman

This song is doing a bit of double work this morning. On the heels of the release of the latest GTA game, I’ve been revisiting past soundtracks of the game (see Scientist). This track was featured in GTA IV, which followed Niko Bellic around Liberty City and gave me a chance to drive around a fictionalized version of Jersey City in much more detail than versions of the game from my childhood. But more importantly, this track is part of a massive playlist from Despacio. A 50,000 watt vinyl-only sound system. The brainchild of James Murphy and David and Stephen Dewaele. I’ve never experienced it. Chris has multiple times. And we’ve been tossing around the idea of doing a show on the songs they used to highlight this one-of-a-kind listening experience.

Without making this much longer than it needs to be, to introduce a song that teases a future episode of a radio show you’ve probably never listened to, with no set date, here’s Harry Thurman’s “Underwater”. Play it loud.

One song per day. Two hundred words or less.
