Fresh Snow

Pulling together playlists for the radio show send me down into some interesting rabbit holes. A few months back, Drew over at Passenger Seat told me to check out Athens of the North. A label based out of the UK that put out a lot of leftfield soul and other groove records that he saw me purchasing. So, I’m digging through their catalog, making note of tracks I like, when I came across this cover. Mind you, it was 70 degrees out, it hadn’t snow much all year, and I immediately found myself in the mindset of “pray for snow”.

Greg Foat is known for playing the keys, but this track, and the album as a whole have very good percussion sections that keep the track moving without being too forceful. If you’re looking for something mellow – like a fresh turn in deep powder – give this a shot.
