Kicking Flavor With My Man feat. Percee P

Heard this classic featuring the “rhyme inspector MC Percee P” while watching a new mural go up at Teufelsberg, an abandoned listening station built by the NSA for intelligence gathering in post-war Berlin. It’s a crazy place, not only because of the crumbling buildings covered in graffiti and the post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout vibes, but because the hill that this listening station sits on was man made by moving 98 million cubic yards of rubble and debris from Berlin proper. Unsurprisingly, an enormous chunk of this work was done by women known as Trümmerfrauen. They became mythic figures and were used in propaganda efforts on both sides of the wall.

A lot of history has past, and there is a lot of it at this site tucked into the Grunewald. As for today’s selection, it just happened to be on while someone was painting. And it that way, it shows how art transcends time and places that not much else can. It’s also a nice fuck you to the past in the way the Berlin and it’s counterculture do best.
