For My Ladies (feat. Elijah Fox)

Lately, I’ve come across a lot of writing about the importance of curation. In Kyle Chayka’s “Filterworld”, he dedicates a few dozen pages to the importance of intimately getting to know something, sharing it with someone else, and letting them be part of the experience. Ultimately landing on a trip down memory lane to a few public radio stations and DJs that left an impression, like WPKN 89.5 FM and Paul Cavalcante’s Cavalcade on WFUV. In both cases, the music that “woke” him up and got him to pay attention were Jazz. In his case it was Coltrane. And while there will undoubtedly be posts about Coltrane in the future, today you get this track from one of the best modern drummers alive Yussef Dayes.

Why all the mess about curation? I actually have this record on now, and I’m looking at the liner notes. It’s how I know Rocco Palladino is on the bass, Elijah Fox is on the keys and synths, and Alexander Bourt is handling the other percussions – or that Charlie Stacey helped with the arrangements.

Physical things are important, but so is taking the time to understand what you consume, especially if you love it.
