Brides of Funkenstein
Recently on the award winning radio show Missed Connections (citation needed) we did a deep dive into David Byrne and some of the supporting players from Stop Making Sense. One of the interesting things about Talking Heads during this time is that they had a unique vision in mind for what they wanted the band to sound like, and instead of just trying to recreate the magic, they actually went to the source of the sounds and incorporated them into what they were doing. So that’s how you end up with people like Bernie Worrell, Steve Scales, Adrian Belew, Edna Holt, and Lynn Mabry all joining their touring band at points to flesh out their sound. This song is, as you can guess, connected to George Clinton, who produced this album and helped name the group, and contained Lynn Mabry, who was originally a background singer for Sly and the Family Stone.
