When Doves Cry

Last weekend I watched Moonwalker based on all the hype around the Michael Jackson biopic that is currently all the rage. Which naturally brought me down the rabbit hole of Prince, who also died of an opiate overdose (specifically Fentanyl). I was curious as to why he was even taking unregulated pain meds in the first place, and ended up finding out about this rumor from the book Nothing Compares 2 U: An Oral History of Prince — while he was rehearsing for the Purple Rain tour, he wanted to come down from the rafters in a bathtub. During one of the rehearsal sessions, the tub broke and Prince ended up falling about “10 or 12 feet.” This put him in the hospital, and potentially kicked off an addiction that would eventually prove fatal. His tour manager Alan Leeds later stated “I don’t think his hip and his leg were ever completely normal after that.”
