I first came across this song on one of those Directors Label DVDs that Palm Pictures put out in the early 2000s, I think it was Volume 3: The Work of Director Michel Gondry. I have all of them by the way, I was big into MTV and watching music videos growing up so these were right up my alley.
This music video was fascinating in its simplicity - it’s just some guys doing a road trip from Los Angeles to New York shot as a Timelapse with a slow shutter speed. At the time, back in high school, I hadn’t really gone to a ton of places other than to visit family. So seeing this and a lot of other related content really made me want to get out there and explore.
In the time since, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and have driven on many of the same roads in this video. But revisiting this song takes me back to being a teenager and daydreaming about what the world would have in store.
