Ain't Gonna Cry
Universal Togetherness Band
Numero is one of my favorite record labels out there and I often will blindly buy things that they press if the write up looks interesting. This is probably my favorite release I’ve picked up from them.
It’s a collection of tracks that a bunch of students at Columbia College in Chicago wrote in the 1970s that mostly went unreleased. Even though the recordings aren’t always super polished the songwriting and energy are engaging and catchy. I frequently find myself revisiting this one every few months.
Numero even recently released an album of demos from the primary singer/songwriter, which are all basically just him and a piano which also have a similar vibe but feel even more stripped back, almost kind of gives me Frank Ocean vibes in a way.
