Scorpion (Lost Soul Bent On Revenge)

What an incredible piece of ephemera. I had this on cassette back in the day, largely because I was a massive fan of the first Mortal Kombat movie (Annihilation lost me by killing off Johnny Cage in the opening scene - although its soundtrack is a total banger and got me initially interested in electronic music, and we will revisit this later).

My parents had to really love me because I would make them play this in the car on loop forever, these borderline awful euro house tracks are basically embedded in my DNA at this point. Each song on the album represented one of the original fighters from the video game - alongside two different mixes of the classic Mortal Kombat theme.

Scorpion (Lost Soul Bent on Revenge) is probably my favorite track on the album thanks to the horrendous singing on the chorus and the usage of “Come Here” and “Get Over Here” on the bridge. Just a wonderful reminder of a much simpler time.
