Racetrack in France
Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson
This feels like a pretty clear inspiration for early Jamiroquai. It’s a bummer that a ton of stuff from Gil Scott-Heron isn’t available on streaming, so I’ve had to track most of them down in vinyl, but at least you can still find them fairly reasonably priced.
In some ways with Heron it’s amazing how forward thinking and relevant his music still is after all of these years, but kind of depressing that we haven’t progressed enough to actually cure the ills he described. But with all that being said this isn’t one of those deep songs, it’s just a fun one. So turn it up and close the blinds for a minute so you don’t have to stare at the dumpster fires all around.
