Losing You

Solange

I love a great jukebox. A curated CD collection fit to match the clientele of a bar. Mechanically flipping through track lists. When your favorite bar switches to a TouchTunes machine it can almost feel like a death in the family. Lately I’ve decided to shake the disappointment and instead embrace the opportunity to play DJ at whatever place is foolish enough to leave the digital aux cord laying around.

There are a lot of directions you can take this. Years ago on the Giant Bombcast Patrick Klepek described trolling bars by playing the Star Wars theme on repeat. I like this move, if they deserve it. What direction do you take when your fellow patrons aren’t deserving of a barrage of John Williams? Self indulgent? Crowd pleasers? Go with a mix of both I suppose. When I was in Portland last month we coincidentally heard this in back-to-back bars and I realized it lends itself to pretty much any TouchTunes situation, plus I’m a sucker for Dev Hynes production.

One song per day. Two hundred words or less.
