Eminem
For the longest time I didn’t want to listen to this album. I’m well acquainted with Eminem - as I’d presume most of us are beginning with when he burst into the mainstream with My Name Is back in 1999 (Bonus old head points if you remembered him from the Dead Wrong remix - you are seen).
There was a moment that you could have made the case for Eminem being the biggest rapper or general pop star on the planet. It feels like we are pretty far from those days now - Marshall Mathers has fully enshrined himself in the pantheon of the greats - despite what you may think of his later efforts or his stances on awfully hot coffee pots.
Recently I gave the album a go and was suprised that it’s not more Slim Shady era horror rap - but actually a fairly standard mid 90s boom bap rap project that gives a view into the humble beginnings of an individual who would rise to superstardom.
