Guitar Vader
I have some really fond memories of getting together with friends and playing video games on Friday nights. It was a cheap hang, especially if you had a CD burner and knew how to work a soldering iron.
In the late 90s and early 00s, big game studios were willing to take some big creative risks — and once in a while you’d get something really special, like Jet Set Radio. I could write about how it was beautifully cell-shaded, how it tapped into the anti-establishment and anti-authoritarian sentiment, or paid homage to 1980s New York, but what I really want to share is the soundtrack. Which is so much better than it deserves to be. And this track takes me back to simpler times, playing Dreamcast with friends, not realizing that 25 years later we’d still be listening to these songs.
PS: NTS put out a tribute mix that goes through the full catalog of both games.
