Single Track Mind

The backstory for this blog isn’t special. It’s really not that interesting at all. It’s two friends, originally from the east coast, hanging out in the PNW chatting about music. As elder Millennials, we often reminisce about all the ways we used to discover music – record shops, local radio stations, DIY music venues (RIP Glasslands) – and how much things have changed. Now we rely on algorithms to continuously feed us things that they know we’ll like (because they keep us on the apps).

We miss the randomness of a recommendation that has absolutely nothing to do with what we usually listen to. We miss when the value wasn’t in similarity or adjacency, but in the simple fact that I respect you and your music taste, and if you like it, I’m probably going to give it a shot.

And that’s pretty much it. We post a song a day and it’s going to be all over the place. Maybe you’ll find a song you love, maybe you’ll listen to some stuff you hate, but if we’ve evoked any feelings at all, then this blog has done its job.

One song per day. Two hundred words or less. Good music. Sometimes good writing.
